Welcome to Thespian Thoughts, for theater reviews. The Complex Theater in Hollywood, CA housed the artistic production of “Sunday in the Park with George.” The wonderful musical production brings together love, art, betrayal and humor. “Sunday in the Park with George” is a fictional depiction of the famous French impressionist painter George Seurat. Seurat’s masterpiece, ‘A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte’ is the main topic throughout the play. While it took years to finish, his daily encounters at the park influenced the painting immensely.

The cast of “Sunday in the Park with George” does a great job of using the small stage to shine and really bring Seurat’s painted images to life. The cast of 14 is able to convey many emotions, while the audience experiences them as well. The songs in the show are extremely catchy and I found myself walking to my car singing a few.

If you want to see a great production that includes musical tunes, funny and dramatic moments, art, and more, “Sunday in the Park with George” should not be missed.

A great quote from the late George Seurat goes, “Originality depends only on the character of the drawing and the vision peculiar to each artist.”

“Sunday in the Park with George” is playing until March 13. For more information, please go to: www.stillhungrytheater.com.
