Moniqua Plante (pronounced like Monica) acts, produces, creates and occasionally does some fake fighting on-screen. Think of her as a ray of sunshine on the subway, the weather girl who makes the hurricane sound like fun or an ass-kicking assassin for hire.
Moniqua was born and raised in San Francisco and started performing at an early age. She left the city by the bay to earn my degree in Literature from the University of Colorado in Boulder, where she mainly honed my snowboarding skills.
After studying at The American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco, Moniqua moved to LA. She has worked with Molly Shannon and John Michael Higgins on NBC’s “Kath & Kim” and recurred on John Wells’ ‘Southland’ with Michael Cudlitz and Benjamin McKenzie. Most recently she booked a guest lead on HBO/Cinemax’s anthology series, “Femme Fatales” (yes, there’s a lil side boob) and guest starred on Alan Ball’s new original series also for HBO/Cinemax, “Banshee”, in February 2013. The start to 2014 has been exciting…a lead role in a horror film for SciFy Channel,”Volcano Zombies” with Danny Trejo (yep, volcanos AND zombies, hard to beat) as well as a national commercial campaign for Weight Watchers.
Moniqua produced her first feature film with Punching Bees Productions, “Beyond the Mat” and is surely en route for an Oscar. Wink wink. But she is most proud of her last two short films, “Buttons in the Ground” and “Pillow Talk”, which she also produced.
These films allowed Moniqua to shine as an actor in ways she hadn’t experienced before and reminded her why she loves acting. Together they have garnered over 19 nominations, winning 12 awards thus far including four Best Actress Awards and Breakout Action Star for Moniqua.
Moniqua loves what she does; to show people as they live and storytelling shines a light on life experiences.
