DRAMA UK LA SHOWCASE
A wonderful way to introduce gifted newcomers to the Hollywood acting scene.
– Theatre review by SANDRO MONETTI
Some of the best American drama students who have been learning their craft in Britain came home for a special showcase performance in Hollywood – and they’d clearly been well taught.
The Drama UK LA Showcase proved to be an entertaining and encouraging evening of monologues and short scenes which revealed the next generation of acting talent have got the goods to go far.
Especially promising were Sage Martin, who performed a scene from Neil Labute’s Fat Pig, Marc Hawes in Neil Simon’s Biloxi Blues and Amanda Nichols doing David Rabe’s Hurly Burly.
They were the standouts among 22 dedicated students who have gone over to the UK’s top drama schools to develop their talents – and every one of them offered something interesting.
Directing the showcase, with the benefit of his 30 years of experience in the US and UK, was seasoned director and educator Amir Korangy, currently president of Hollywood’s Theatre of Arts, which hosted the showcase.
This was a wonderful way to introduce gifted newcomers to the Hollywood acting scene and hopefully the UK LA showcase will become an annual tradition.
