Thespian Thoughts – An Ideal Husband – Theatre Review by Sandro Monetti

Episode: 66

Blackmail, suggestions of scandalous affairs and political skull-duggery … it could be modern day Washington. But instead, 1895 London is the setting for this timeless and terrific play.
– Theatre Review By SANDRO MONETTI

Oscar Wilde’s witty language and clever plot is in good hands with the talented ensemble assembled at Sierra Madre Playhouse.

Flame haired vixen Lady Cheveley (gleefully played by an impressive Ann Noble) threatens to expose a scandal in the past of political rising star Sir Robert Chiltern (a solid Jonathan Lamer) but reckons without the stoic support of his faithful wife Gertrude (a note perfect Gaby Santinelli).

Director Gigi Bermingham doesn’t add much new to this tried and tested theatre favorite but if it ain’t broke then don’t fix it seems a sensible approach to such winning material.

For with loyalty and betrayal, love and deception and many classic one liners, this is an ideal evening’s entertainment.
