Theatre Review: SIN!
SIN
SIN is an authentic look at what it means to be human.

“SIN” is an original play written by Wendy Macloed and directed by Tony Savant, which highlights the rocky reality of human relationships as it relates to seven particular character flaws: lust, sloth, greed, gluttony, envy, wrath and pride. “Avery Bly” is an on-air traffic reporter struggling with the relationships in her own life, some of a very personal nature like her alcoholic ex-husband and her ailing brother, and some of a superficial nature like her new boss and a stranger in a bar. Each person in her life that we meet in this play strongly exemplifies one of the “seven deadly sins.” “Avery” becomes overwhelmed by the apparent flaws in each person she encounters, as she maintains an artificial veil of stability and outer calm. But during a 24 hour period, the night before the 1989 earthquake in San Francisco, everything in her life also begins to crumble. In the end, “Avery” is able to see the truth of each of these individuals as well as acknowledge the truth within herself.
The story of “SIN” was interesting, the characters humorous and illuminating, and the writing was genuine. Each of these characters reminded me of someone I knew, and I appreciated the fact that it was so believable and real. Overall, the acting was completely professional; this was a performance I could have been easily watching on the big screen. There were stand-out performances from laugh-out-loud funny (Bradley Hasemeyer and Jason Fox) to intense and emotional (Elena Fabri and Tim Coultas). This is an amazing small theater find that stirs the emotions while subtly encouraging you to look within. What more can you ask for?

AVERY: Elena Fabri
LOUIS (Lust): Rory Coyle
MICHAEL (Sloth): Lance Delgado
JONATHAN (Greed): Bradley Hasemeyer
HELEN (Sloth) Holly Clapham
FRED (Envy): Vito Viscuso

GERARD (Pride): Tim Coultas
