MY THREE ANGELS

The Group Rep presents Sam and Bella Spewack’s dark comedy MY THREE ANGELS, directed by Larry Eisenberg, produced by Laura Coker and Troy Whitaker, opening Friday, December 9 at 8pm, Friday and Saturday at 8pm, Sunday at 2pm, December 9, 2011 – January 15, 2012 (12/25 and 01/01, 7pm shows only) at the
Lonny Chapman Theatre in the NoHo Arts District in North Hollywood, CA 91601.

MY THREE ANGELS is a sweet, Christmas show built on murder and mayhem. On tropical Devil’s Island, three convicts on a work release program are employed as roofers by a struggling shopkeeper and his family. The trio takes pity on their kindly employer who will surely lose his business when the overbearing cousin comes from France to audit the books. Using guile, a little romance and a well behaved snake, the trio craft a plan to set matters straight, achieve justice for the shopkeeper and redemption for themselves.

Cast includes Robert Gallo, Doug Haverty, Garrett Marshall, Hersha Parady, Lloyd Pedersen, Julia Silverman, Daniel Sykes, Chris Winfield, and Kelsi Zahl.

The play was adapted twice to film.  In 1955, We’re No Angels starred Humphrey Bogart, Peter Ustinov, Aldo Ray, Joan Bennett, Basil Rathbone, and Leo G. Carroll, directed by Michael Curtiz, who had directed Bogart in Casablanca; one of the rare comedies that Bogart made.  Based on the play by Samuel and Bella Spewack the screenplay was written by Ranald MacDougall.”  In 1989, the play was adapted again with the plot retooled into We’re No Angels, a comedy film directed by Neil Jordan starring Robert De Niro, Sean Penn, and Demi Moore.
