Acting In Style – How Actors Dress Themselves for Auditions

Your Host: Julie-Kathleen Langan

Date: Monday 22 April 2013 12:00 am

Julie Kathleen Langdan talks with successful actors and actress on what you should wear to your next casting call. Finding a balance in creativity and dressing for the part are both important in how to dress; however being confident in what you wear is key. Dress to impress! Good tips for how to dress at an audition.

Mobile Version – Patrick Kilpatrick
/wp-content/videos/50_Acting_in_Style_Actor_Auditions_Pt1_Patrick_Kilpatrick.flv

Julie Kathleen Langan sits down with actor Patrick Kilpatrick to discuss what to wear to an audition. Patrick recommends not going to an audition completely dressed up because it screams amateur hour. Instead, he recommends wearing something that just indicates the job. However, depending on the job, dress to impress the casting directors by not going over the top yet wearing clothing that indicates how your character would potentially look like.

You also don’t need to spend top dollar on clothes for the audition! Go to your local thrift store and see what they have to offer to really bring the character you are auditioning for to life to keep costs low!

Mobile Version – Candace Kita
/wp-content/videos/50_Acting_in_Style_Actor_Auditions_Pt4_Candace_Kita.flv

Julie Kathleen Langan catches Actress Candace Kita after an audition for her tips as well. Candace explains to not be embarrassed or upset about getting roles that you normally always get. If you have a niche for a certain look, go for that look and book those roles. It’s not about what you think you are, it’s really about how casting perceives you.

What Candace suggests is to give a hint of the character and not to dress up too much as if you were going out for Halloween. Candace also recommends not wearing jewelry because the casting directors may ask to have them removed so they can see the real you. Make sure you also look like your headshot. If you come in looking completely different than the headshot you referred them too, they could be disappointed and may not book you for the role you were auditioning for.

Mobile Version – Danny Pardo
/wp-content/videos/50_Acting_in_Style_Actor_Auditions_Pt3_Danny_Pardo.flv

Actor Danny Pardo adds his advice for dressing to an audition as well. He suggests dressing for the part as well. If you are going out for a part as a priest, dress like a priest! If you are going to go wild with your clothing, make sure to commit to what you are wearing and be confident in yourself.

If you are going to dress crazy, make sure you are ready to go above and beyond and act the part in the audition without being nervous or shy. It is all about the imagination and seeing the character and roll in your mind.

For more information about Danny Pardo, visit his IMDb at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2373963/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1

Mobile Version – Christina DeRosa
/wp-content/videos/50_Acting_in_Style_Actor_Auditions_Pt2_Christina_DeRosa.flv

Julie Kathleen Langan also sits down with Actress Christina DeRosa to discuss audition wardrobes. Not all wardrobes for casting calls are up to your own taste, instead Christina’s audition called for a specific wardrobe. Christina believes that wardrobe is extremely important when it comes to auditioning, especially commercials.

Christina suggests that, when it comes to commercial casting, you wardrobe should be tailored to that of the company you are auditioning for. This way it sends a subliminal message to the director and casting directors that those are the colors the have as opposed to wearing competitors colors. Look up the company you are auditioning for and use images you find to influence the way you dress for the audition!

The event raised funds and awareness on behalf of the communities affected by the oil spill earlier this year in Louisiana’s Gulf of Mexico. While many designers have supported their individual causes in the past, this event marked the first time a group of designers joined together in the name of one cause. The Gulf spill has devastated the long-term livelihood of thousands of Gulf residents – fisherman, restaurant and resort owners/workers, sport fishing operators, shop owners and business owners and workers at large – leaving them all at dire risk for their economic future. Additionally, the sea life of the area has suffered greatly; turtles, fish, birds, alligators, and vital plant life are all victims of this tragic event.

Charity Lives, LA Fashion Corner and F.A.M.E (Fashion, Art Music Entertainment) came together to provide this star-studded fashion show capping off the 62nd annual Emmy Awards by showcasing some of the country’s most exciting new fashion designers. The fashion industry’s top models, wardrobe stylists and hair and make-up artists donated their time and talent to the cause.

The red carpet was followed by a luxury fashion show with music, fashion industry exhibits, gourmet appetizers and complimentary gift bags. A VIP reception featuring celebrities from the worlds of entertainment and fashion was held for special sponsors and donors.
