Theatre Review by Pepper Jay of the Actors Entertainment.

Welcome to Thespian Thoughts.

Ever wonder when you will next have the best of theater experiences? Look no further. I had the extraordinary pleasure of experiencing the Theatre Palisades production of “The Diviners,” in Pacific Palisades, California. Set in early 1930’s rural Indiana, “The Diviners” is a griping, moving, and powerful story of a young boy, Buddy Layman, magnificently portrayed by 14 year old Nicholas Podany, as he struggles with his own demons amid the small population in early 1930’s rural Indiana.

The creative and character-drivin’ story by Jim Leonard, Jr., was expertly directed by Tony Torrisi on a simplified stage with the result that this powerful cast had the audience riveted in their seats until the standing ovation. The authentic interrelationships of the characters engage the audience with brilliant performances by Brett Chapin, as the outsider, Oh Rhyne, as Buddy’s father, and Stephanie Hawkins, as Buddy’s sister. Each and every member of this cast was superb. The audience laughed and cried as they felt they knew each character on a personal basis, including and particularly Richard Little as Basil Bennett, who just can get used to this new motor vehicle age.
